Help my cash drawer is not opening

This Guide will go through the reasons that cause the cash drawer to not open.

Cash drawers may not open automatically or make clicking sounds for the following reasons:
  • The cash drawer is not completely closed, jammed, or could be locked.
  • The cash drawer printer has not been specified as the customer receipt printer.
  • The cash drawer interface cable is loose, damaged, or not the correct cable type.
  • The cash drawer is jammed by a coin or other object.

1. Check that the Cash Drawer is Unlocked & Not Jammed

• Use the Cash Drawer key to make sure that the cash drawer is unlocked.

• Check if the Cash Drawer is making a sound like it is attempting to pop open, when completing a sale.

• If the Cash Drawer is unlocked and is making sounds like it is trying to open, check if there are any papers, folders, or objects that are preventing it from opening (over-filling the cash drawer can cause it to jam)

2. Check Receipt Printer Status & Cash Drawer Connection

Check that the Cash Drawer is connected to the Receipt Printer.

• The Cash Drawer cable will be labelled on each end to indicate which end of the cable plugs into the Cash Drawer, and which end plugs into the Printer.

• The Printer end of the cable must be plugged into the printer's 'Cash Drawer' port

• The Cash Drawer cable must be connected with a cash drawer cable.

Check that the Printer is Online and Operational

• If the printer is turned off, not connected to the same POS Network as the cash drawer, or has flashing error light, the Cash Drawer will not open.

The Aures printers will either beep or open the cash drawer, if it beeps when printing then call us at TillTech to configure to your cash drawer.

3. Check that Receipt Printer "Has Cash Drawer" Setting is Turned On.

Login as Admin on your website

Go to Settings > Settings.

Select POS settings.

Ensure that the “Auto Open Cash Drawer on payments is set as required.
