Flush DNS cache (Windows)

Clear cached DNS to pick up recent domain or DNS changes.

Flushing DNS clears cached lookups so your PC fetches the latest records.

Common issues this fixes

  • Domain transfers not resolving correctly
  • Recent name server changes not taking effect
  • A record updates still pointing to the old server

Steps

  1. Close all web browsers and any apps using the internet.
  2. Open the Start menu, type cmd, then press Enter to launch Command Prompt.
  3. Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
  4. Wait for the confirmation message that the DNS resolver cache was successfully flushed.

Optionally run the command twice to be extra sure the cache is cleared.
