Set Google DNS (Windows)

Point your adapter to reliable public DNS servers.

Update your network adapter to use Google Public DNS. You can swap in other trusted DNS pairs if preferred.

Steps

  1. Open Control Panel from the Start menu search.
  2. Click Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center.
  3. Select Change adapter settings in the left pane.
  4. Right-click the network connection you use for internet and choose Properties.
  5. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click Properties.
  6. Choose Use the following DNS server addresses.
  7. Enter Preferred DNS: 8.8.8.8 and Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4 (Google Public DNS).
  8. Click OK, then Close to apply the settings.

Alternative DNS pairs

  • Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1
  • OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220

Your device will still receive its IP address via DHCP; only DNS resolution is overridden.
